The Mt. Olive Senior Center was started in October 1975 to provide senior citizens in the community with programs to enhance their lives. Working out of the Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church in Waterbury, the Senior Center focuses on issues affecting the elderly and provides nutritional meals, recreation, and educational activities. The Senior Center’s mission is still to address problems of isolation and promote physical and mental health and well-being. All of these elements taken together provide a well-rounded environment in which the members of the senior center thrive. The Center welcomes a diverse community, where members tend to be age 55 and over.
The Senior Center operates as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and relies upon donations and community grants to continue operating, The Center is overseen by a board of directors and employs one part-time staff member and part-time volunteers.
